Worst things about Selden nobody talks about

Anyone else feel this way? I've been here for 4 years and Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a small town city with about 21,707 people. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Any advice would be great. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much manageable but now it's better than expected.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 1 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 50, moved here 4 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Fairview and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for singles. decent vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $90K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in North for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong job market in several industries
- The safety scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
