How is Selma for outdoor activities?

Anyone else feel this way? Rent is about $723/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Am I wrong here? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in government. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 4 years ago. The main reasons were work and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely improving and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Westside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in engineering. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Uptown for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
- The cultural scene scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
- The outdoor recreation scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Definitely worth checking out..
