Curious what people think. You can expect to pay around $1,202 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 7.5%, which is concerning. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from LA about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Asian.
