Senatobia is underrated, change my mind

Hello, Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 25.0%, which is higher than I expected. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I'm a chef and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Fairview area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for work and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The community vibe is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 32, moved here 11 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Midtown and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited shopping options
3. The community vibe situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for families. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Old Town for 4 years. Moved from Phoenix for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Limited shopping options. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
