You can expect to pay around $844 for rent here. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 7 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The pet-friendliness is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
