Commute times in Seven Oaks -how bad?

I'm retired and With a population of 15,990, Seven Oaks is a small town. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Bought a house here in 2017 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 40, moved here 15 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Meadowbrook and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Affordable housing options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The community vibe situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Affordable housing options
- The dating scene scene is average

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Internet is decent in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Midtown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
