I've lived in Fairview for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- The public transit scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 11 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 15 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is decent - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
