What's it really like living in Severn?

I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $2,082/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 58,041 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Severn sits at 593.4 per 100K. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Thoughts? The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Eastside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
