Raising a family in Shakopee -thoughts?

Hey, The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $110,989 in Shakopee. Median household income is $110,989, which feels pretty solid for the area. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 8 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2017 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I'm a chef and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Minneapolis about 13 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.
