Shaw Heights in the winter -how bad?

Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. Poverty rate is 4.2%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Shaw Heights sits at 438.2 per 100K. Homes are going for about $452,700 on average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Am I overthinking this? The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is weather. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Dallas about 5 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.
