Just moved here 5 months ago and Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Thoughts? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 13 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much affordable but now it's underrated.

I've lived in West for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
- The outdoor recreation scene is average
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..
