Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely underrated and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely excellent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (The Heights) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is solid in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 10 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Moved here from San Diego about 7 years ago. I have mixed feelings honestly. Still getting used to public transit but It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Dallas it's challenging.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Highland. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Indian.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I work in retail here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.
