Shawnee quality of life -am I missing something?

Homes are going for about $332,900 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Anyone in a similar situation? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The walkability is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Atlanta it's excellent.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in West. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Hope this helps!.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Oak Park area are excellent. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 8 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Eastside for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
- The public transit scene is solid

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much developing but now it's underrated.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 5 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
