Remote worker thinking about Shawneeland

Hey, We have two kids and Homes are going for about $238,500 on average. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Let me know your thoughts. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great Southern places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The housing market is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 12 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Atlanta it's average.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from San Diego about 7 years ago. The main reasons were weather and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been here 4 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I've been here 15 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
