Quick question about Shelbyville

Not sure if this has been asked before, but It's a a small town city with about 17,436 people. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development.

I work in engineering here and it exceeded my expectations. The job market for my field is average. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Old Town for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The dating scene scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a contractor and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 13 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
