Cost of living reality check -Shelton
First post here. We're a young couple and Poverty rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. It's a a smaller city city with about 41,402 people. Homes are going for about $435,700 on average. Median household income is $114,739, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development.
Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events
Cons:
- Hot summers
- Limited nightlife
- Sprawl everywhere
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Chain restaurants dominate
The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.
