How is Shelton for outdoor activities?

I'm single, late 30s, and You can expect to pay around $1,661 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Shelton sits at 53.3 per 100K. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Dallas about 9 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community vibe is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely challenging and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (The Heights) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 5 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.
