Shelton is underrated, change my mind

Hi all, I'm retired and Homes are going for about $296,100 on average. Median household income is $60,589, which feels about average for the area. It's a a small town city with about 10,619 people. The median home value here is around $296,100, which seems about average. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community
- Active local events

Cons:
- Limited nightlife
- Not very walkable
- Poor road conditions
Is this normal for Shelton? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in marketing. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like seafood.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Springfield for 9 years. Moved from Denver for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is tough - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Property taxes are high. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 8/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Uptown area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The pet-friendliness is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
