With a population of 2,124, Shepherd is a small town. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I've lived in Westside for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The public transit scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- The school system scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited shopping options

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Uptown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been here 12 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into running, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in education. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Came here for family and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The pet-friendliness is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
