Life in Shepherdsville as a young professional

Hello, Household incomes average around $71,250 in Shepherdsville. You can expect to pay around $898 for rent here. Average temperature is around 57--F, so the weather is moderate. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Friendly people
- Close to nature
- Lots of new development
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- High property taxes
- Boring for young people
- Poor road conditions
What would you do? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Miami about 12 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 2 years. Moved from Nashville for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Far from beaches/mountains. And cost of living can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Phoenix it's underrated.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 30, moved here 8 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Eastside and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The food scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
