Curious what people think. Median household income is $73,214, which feels about average for the area. Household incomes average around $73,214 in Sheridan. Average temperature is around 48--F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $183,200 on average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Should I be concerned? Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is weather. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a data analyst, 35, moved here 14 years ago from Portland. I've lived in West and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The pet-friendliness situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The pet-friendliness is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 7 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The safety is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Miami it's excellent.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely improving and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (South) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
