Why I chose Sherrelwood over bigger cities

Hey, Been living here since 2011. Median household income is $73,849, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 9.3%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,627/month for a decent place. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Diverse community
- Low taxes
- Easy commute
- Lots of new development
- Active local events

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not very walkable
- High property taxes
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
What neighborhoods would you suggest? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I've lived in Highland for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- The cost of living scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in government. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Indian.

No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Boston it's excellent.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 8 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
