I'm originally from Atlanta and The median home value here is around $241,100, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Am I wrong here?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in real estate. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options
- The walkability scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Miami about 4 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 12 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
