Affordable areas near Shillington?
Longtime lurker here, I'm retired and Rent is about $1,293/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 12.5%, which is around average. Crime rate is something to consider -Shillington sits at 151.8 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.
Pros:
- Friendly people
- Nice parks and trails
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
Thoughts? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.
