Affordable areas near Shillington?

Longtime lurker here, I'm retired and Rent is about $1,293/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 12.5%, which is around average. Crime rate is something to consider -Shillington sits at 151.8 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Nice parks and trails
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
Thoughts? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Miami it's challenging.

I'm a physical therapist and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is excellent and there's always something going on.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Midtown for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- The job market scene is decent

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from New York about 4 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Happy to answer more specific questions..
