What surprised you most about Shillington?

Hey folks, I work in tech and Crime rate is something to consider -Shillington sits at 151.8 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Has anyone dealt with this? Looking forward to hearing from you all.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Moved here from San Diego about 15 years ago. I have mixed feelings honestly. Still getting used to safety but It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 13 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to LA it's challenging.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in construction. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Highland area are decent. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Phoenix about 2 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.
