Random thought, You can expect to pay around $1,098 for rent here. It's a a small town city with about 14,109 people. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Is this normal for Shiloh? I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Bought a house here in 2020 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely hit or miss and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (The Heights) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Charlotte it's surprisingly good.
