Top 5 things I love about Shiloh

So, I'm a 28-year-old firefighter and Rent is about $1,519/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $82,205 in Shiloh. Homes are going for about $233,300 on average. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Pros:
- Good schools
- Easy commute
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Limited dining options
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
Let me know your thoughts. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 8 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 35, moved here 12 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Oak Park and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Property taxes are high
3. The school system situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much stable but now it's surprisingly good.

Moved here from Austin about 14 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to cost of living but It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
