Is Shoreline worth moving to in 2026?

Hey folks, I'm a teacher here and Poverty rate is 5.7%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $113,336, which feels pretty solid for the area. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Is this normal for Shoreline? Cheers. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
- The traffic scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to San Francisco it's hit or miss.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 9 years. Moved from New York for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Can feel isolated. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Old Town for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- The public transit scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.
