What I wish I knew before living in Shoreline

First post here. I'm a teacher here and Crime rate is something to consider -Shoreline sits at 166.0 per 100K. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $113,336, which feels pretty solid for the area. With a population of 59,280, Shoreline is a smaller city. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Low taxes
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited dining options
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Not enough green space
Worth the trade-offs? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 11 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 4 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in tech. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Miami it's challenging.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.
