OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in education. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 5 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in marketing. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Southern.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options
- The walkability scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 37, moved here 6 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Highland and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The job market situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for remote workers. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $50K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in marketing. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much established but now it's better than expected.
