Hello, You can expect to pay around $1,804 for rent here. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. Rent is about $1,804/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Thoughts? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely improving and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Westside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 6 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much established but now it's underrated.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Denver about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is underrated.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. No regrets on my end..

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in West. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in education. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2023 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
