OK so I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 11,913 people. Poverty rate is 6.4%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,055/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Should I be concerned? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The healthcare is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Boston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Hope this helps!.
