Honest thoughts on life in Shreveport

Military spouse here. Homes are going for about $178,100 on average. Poverty rate is 18.4%, which is higher than I expected. With a population of 183K, Shreveport is a mid-size city. Household incomes average around $48,465 in Shreveport. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. Does this match your experience? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great Mexican places. I love the pace of life here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2024 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone up a bit since then.
