Raising a family in Shrewsbury -thoughts?

Hey everyone, Poverty rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,143/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 58--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Great weather
- Friendly people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Poor road conditions
- Limited cultural events
- Chain restaurants dominate
The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Salt Lake City it's better than expected.

I've lived in South for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- The community vibe scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

Came here for family and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The cost of living is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Definitely worth checking out..
