Honest thoughts on life in Shrub Oak
Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a college student here and Household incomes average around $170,225 in Shrub Oak. It's a a small town city with about 2,770 people. The median home value here is around $498,800, which is pretty steep. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.
Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Low crime in most areas
- Lots of new development
- Strong sense of community
Cons:
- Hot summers
- Cold winters
- Not very walkable
- Lack of diversity
- Few job opportunities in some fields
Has anyone dealt with this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.
