Rent in Sicklerville getting crazy

Been meaning to ask this. I'm a teacher here and With a population of 44,500, Sicklerville is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $256,600, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools
- Lots of new development
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- High property taxes
What would you do? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in government. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 15 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.
