Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is average in most areas.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 31, moved here 11 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Highland and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Good schools in most areas
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The safety situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$100K here.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in consulting. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..
