The good and bad of living in Sierra Madre

Curious what people think. I'm retired and Average temperature is around 58--F, so the weather is moderate. With a population of 11,020, Sierra Madre is a small town. The median home value here is around $1,172,200, which is pretty steep. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Has anyone dealt with this? The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone about the same since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in tech. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
