Random thought, Crime rate is something to consider -Silver Firs sits at 126.5 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 21,796 people. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What would you do? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Seattle about 8 years ago. The main reasons were school and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is challenging.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Hope this helps!.

I work in marketing here and I love the pace of life here. The job market for my field is better than expected. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in East area are improving. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 12 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
