What surprised you most about Silver Lake?

Hey folks, The median home value here is around $299,000, which seems about average. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. Average temperature is around 73--F, so it's warm year-round. Poverty rate is 11.3%, which is around average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. What are your go-to spots? Thanks for reading. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 6 years. Moved from Houston for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Dating scene is rough. And dating scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Fairview. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Fairview area are average. Kids love it here.

I work in finance here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is challenging. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
