I'm originally from New York and Crime rate is something to consider -Silverdale sits at 70.5 per 100K. Rent is about $1,558/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Should I be concerned? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.
