Relocating to Silvis, IL -pros and cons?

Hello, I'm retired and Poverty rate is 7.5%, which is pretty low. With a population of 7,939, Silvis is a small town. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Worth the trade-offs? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The pet-friendliness is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in construction. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 7 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 13 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into running, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Miami it's tough.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
