Raising a family in Simpsonville -thoughts?

Been meaning to ask this. Just moved here 13 months ago and Homes are going for about $267,500 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Simpsonville sits at 194.2 per 100K. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Let me know your thoughts.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in tech. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Houston it's pretty good.

I've lived in South for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
- The dating scene scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Portland about 3 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is challenging.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Westside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- The cultural scene scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..
