Pros and cons of Skokie after 4 years

Hey, The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. The median home value here is around $368,600, which seems about average. Homes are going for about $368,600 on average. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Anyone in a similar situation? The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've lived in Eastside for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
- The nightlife scene is improving

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- The walkability scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

Bought a house here in 2015 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Denver it's underrated.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
