Honest thoughts on life in Sleepy Hollow

Alright, I grew up here but left for a while. Is this normal for Sleepy Hollow?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 9 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

The food scene here is average. Tons of great Mediterranean places. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in legal. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 35, moved here 10 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Close to major attractions
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The traffic situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in finance here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is improving. No regrets on my end..
