How much do you pay for rent in Slidell?

Crime rate is something to consider -Slidell sits at 270.1 per 100K. It's a a smaller city city with about 28,664 people. The median home value here is around $207,800, which is actually reasonable. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much affordable but now it's solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 12 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a sales manager and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 30, moved here 7 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Downtown and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Close to major attractions
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Winters are long and cold
3. The nightlife situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for families. average vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely improving and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Midtown) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Raleigh about 12 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is improving.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
