So, What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely tough and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Baltimore it's surprisingly good.

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great sushi places. I love the pace of life here.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The cultural scene is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
