What to expect moving to Smithtown?

So, I'm retired and It's a a small town city with about 24,940 people. With a population of 24,940, Smithtown is a small town. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I wrong here? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 11 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
