You can expect to pay around $1,398 for rent here. It's a a small town city with about 13,031 people. Rent is about $1,398/month for a decent place. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What neighborhoods would you suggest? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Springfield area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Bought a house here in 2019 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from New York about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 2 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.
