Anyone else feel this way? I'm a 55-year-old chef and Rent is about $929/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $929 for rent here. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Worth the trade-offs? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in government. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Portland it's surprisingly good.
